Oslo, April 5, 2025 – The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) held a protest outside the Norwegian Parliament in Oslo on April 5, 2025, marking the 35th anniversary of the Baren Massacre. The event aimed to raise awareness about the tragic massacre that occurred in 1990, when Chinese forces violently suppressed Uyghur protests in Baren, East Turkestan (now Xinjiang), resulting in numerous deaths.
During the protest, speakers highlighted the ongoing human rights issues faced by the Uyghur community and called for global recognition of the Baren Massacre. The demonstrators emphasized the need for justice, urging international leaders to address the continued oppression in the region and ensure that such historical injustices are acknowledged.
