Ramanagara: In a tragic incident, a woman was killed after a high-voltage electric wire snapped and fell on her in Chikkanahalli village, located in Bangalore South taluk. The victim, identified as 52-year-old Manjamma, died on the spot when the 11 KV power cable fell on her as she was standing on the roadside.
A video of the incident has also emerged wherein Manjamma was seen talking to two other women when the accident occurred. While the other two managed to escape by a hair’s breadth, Manjamma was fatally electrocuted.
The incident sparked outrage among the villagers, who held BESCOM (Bangalore Electricity Supply Company) responsible for the mishap, accusing the power utility of negligence.
Following the incident, officials from the Tavarekere police station arrived at the scene to investigate. Villagers, frustrated by the recurring failures of BESCOM’s infrastructure, staged a protest, demanding accountability and immediate action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. In a similar case last November, a loose BESCOM cable claimed the lives of a mother and her young daughter in Bengaluru.
At the time, BESCOM had promised to review its infrastructure and implement additional safety measures to prevent further accidents. However, the villagers claim that no significant improvements have been made, and the risks posed by poorly maintained power lines remain a serious concern.
