    WHO Calls for Women’s Rights and Equality on International Women’s Day

    Geneva, March 8, 2025 – On International Women’s Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) reiterated its commitment to women’s rights, equality, and empowerment. With the theme “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” WHO urged global action to create equal opportunities and a more inclusive future.

    WHO’s South-East Asia Regional Director, Saima Wazed, highlighted the link between women’s health and societal progress. She pointed out a 41% decline in maternal mortality in the region between 2010 and 2020, exceeding the global average. Wazed called for continued investment in women’s well-being, addressing key challenges like education, sanitation, and environmental health.
