Washington, D.C., February 27, 2025 – U.S. lawmakers have urged Thailand to halt the deportation of Uyghur refugees to China, warning that they could face detention, torture, and persecution. They called on Thailand to respect international human rights obligations and ensure the refugees’ safety.
Amid global concerns over China’s treatment of Uyghurs, the lawmakers urged Thailand to collaborate with international organizations to find protection and resettlement options rather than deporting them. Rights groups continue to highlight allegations of mass detentions and forced labor in Xinjiang.
