Voting Underway for Andhra Pradesh Assembly Financial Committees: Key Elections in Progress

VIJAYAWADA: Voting has commenced for the election of members to Andhra Pradesh’s Assembly financial committees, including the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Estimates Committee, and Public Undertakings Committee (PUC). The voting, held in the Assembly Committee Hall from 9 AM to 2 PM, is being conducted under a preferential voting system. MLAs are casting their votes systematically, with coalition whips under the NDA coordinating and guiding the process.

A notable aspect of the election is the requirement for parties to have at least 18 MLAs in the Assembly to ensure representation on these committees. Despite falling short with only 11 members, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has filed nominations for three positions, creating a competitive scenario with 10 nominations for nine available seats.

Pulivarthi Anjaneyulu, Jogeswara Rao, and Kuna Ravi Kumar are poised to secure chairperson positions for the PAC, Estimates, and PUC committees, respectively, given the current political dynamics. Before voting began, Chief Whip and other whips held a strategic meeting in Minister Nara Lokesh’s chamber, where each whip was assigned to manage votes for 14 MLAs to streamline the process.

These elections are pivotal for strengthening fiscal oversight and ensuring the accountability of government spending and public sector undertakings. The results will significantly influence the state’s legislative scrutiny and governance framework.
