Visakhapatnam, February 3, 2025 – Indian cricketer Shabnam Shakil, a rising fast bowler from Visakhapatnam, played a crucial role in India’s U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup victory. With her right-arm pace bowling, she troubled opposition batters and emerged as a key bowler for the team. In the tournament, she took one wicket each against South Africa and Bangladesh and claimed two wickets against Sri Lanka, showcasing her talent on the international stage.
Shabnam’s cricket journey began at a young age, influenced by her father, M.D. Shakil, a former cricketer, who used to take her to the ground. Recognizing her passion, her parents enrolled her in a cricket academy in Visakhapatnam, where she honed her skills. Over the years, she excelled at district and state-level competitions, earning selection for the India U-19 team. She later represented India-A in the Challenger Trophy and played for India-B in several U-19 matches, proving her potential as a future star in Indian women’s cricket.
