Visakhapatnam, April 22, 2025 — The state government has announced free electricity connections for agricultural pump sets in Visakhapatnam, benefiting hundreds of farmers, particularly those relying on borewells for irrigation. This initiative ensures up to nine hours of free electricity daily, with 45,235 connections currently irrigating about 90,000 acres of crops like rice, maize, and coconut.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s government will also issue 500 new agricultural connections in the district as part of a statewide effort to resolve 50,000 pending connections. Over 165 new transformers, costing ₹4.2 crores, will be installed to support this. Each transformer will cater to three connections, offering free electricity up to three poles, with farmers paying for additional poles, ensuring consistent irrigation support.
