Cox’s Bazar, February 24, 2025: A violent altercation at the Bangladesh Air Force base in Cox’s Bazar resulted in one death and several injuries. The confrontation started when air force personnel stopped a motorbike rider for not wearing a helmet. The situation escalated when the rider’s family and neighbors attacked the base, prompting soldiers to open fire. The military has labeled the attackers as “miscreants.”
The incident occurred amid ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh, following the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The interim government, under Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, has been conducting “Operation Devil Hunt,” leading to over 8,000 arrests, with accusations from Hasina’s party that the operation disproportionately targets their supporters.
