Dublin, February 17, 2025 — Uyghur and Hong Kong diaspora groups have urged the Irish government to prioritize human rights in its upcoming discussions with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. They called for Ireland to take a firm stand against China’s human rights violations, specifically the mistreatment of Uyghurs in Xinjiang and the suppression of pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong.
The groups have emphasized the need for Ireland to align its foreign policy with European Union human rights standards and to hold China accountable for its actions. With Wang Yi’s visit to Dublin, activists are pressing the government to directly address these human rights concerns, amidst mounting international pressure on China.
