Dehradun, February 7, 2025: The Uttarakhand government will implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) from January 26, 2025, introducing strict registration norms for marriages, divorces, live-in relationships, and inheritance. Experts confirm that proof of residence is mandatory for registration, ensuring that only Uttarakhand residents can avail of these legal provisions. The move aims to streamline personal law matters across all communities.
Applicants must provide documents such as age proof, nationality, and prior relationship status. Live-in partners must register their relationship, and births from such unions must be reported within seven days. Aadhaar-linked details will also be required for inheritance claims. The UCC is expected to create uniformity and transparency in civil laws across the state.
