US Supreme Court Clears Path for 26/11 Accused Tahawwur Rana’s Extradition to India

Washington, March 7, 2025: The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected Tahawwur Rana’s plea to halt his extradition to India, allowing his transfer to Indian authorities. The Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman is accused of aiding the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. He opposed extradition, citing safety concerns and fairness of trial, but the court upheld the U.S. government’s stance, confirming compliance with the bilateral treaty.

Rana was arrested in the U.S. in 2020 following India’s request. He was previously acquitted of direct involvement in the attacks but convicted of supporting Lashkar-e-Taiba. His plea to avoid extradition was denied, clearing the way for his handover to India, where he will face trial.
