LUCKNOW: In the run-up to the bypolls for nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, both Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav have called on voters to exercise their democratic right and cast their votes. These bypolls, held after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, are considered a significant political test for both parties. Yogi Adityanath’s BJP, which emerged with a strong performance in the 2024 national elections, faces challenges from Akhilesh’s SP, which has gained momentum through a successful narrative around issues like reservations and constitutional rights.
Adityanath urged voters to ensure a high turnout, emphasizing the BJP’s focus on development, governance, and law and order. Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav has framed the bypolls as an opportunity to gauge the success of the SP’s political strategies and alliances, which include support from the Congress.
The outcome of these bypolls will be seen as a barometer of political sentiment in Uttar Pradesh as the state gears up for the 2027 assembly elections.
