Uncertainty Looms Over 2025 Champions Trophy as ICC Considers Relocation

Dubai, November 30, 2024: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering relocating the entire 2025 Champions Trophy out of Pakistan due to political tensions and issues regarding India’s participation. Originally scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan, the tournament now faces uncertainty as India’s government has not cleared the team to travel to Pakistan. With no indication of a policy change, the ICC is actively exploring alternative hosting options.

Three potential models are being debated. The first is to keep the tournament in Pakistan as initially planned. The second option is a hybrid model, where matches involving India would be played at a neutral venue like Dubai, and the third would involve completely moving the tournament to another country. Dubai, Sri Lanka, and South Africa are among the alternatives being considered for the event.

A final decision on the tournament’s location is expected soon. The situation reflects similar challenges faced during the Asia Cup 2023, where a hybrid format was adopted due to the ongoing political standoff between India and Pakistan.
