New Delhi, January 9, 2025 – The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced an online interaction programme for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) aimed at familiarizing them with the internationalization of education. The virtual event, scheduled for January 15, 2025, from 3 pm to 4 pm, will focus on helping institutions engage in academic collaborations, including twinning, joint, and dual degree programmes, as well as managing supernumerary seats. This initiative is aligned with the UGC’s regulations on academic collaborations between Indian and foreign institutions.
The UGC had previously notified the “University Grants Commission (Academic Collaboration between Indian and Foreign Higher Educational Institutions to Offer Twinning, Joint Degree, and Dual Degree Programmes) Regulations, 2022,” in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The NEP aims to promote research collaboration and student exchanges between Indian and global institutions, with the possibility of allowing foreign credits to be counted towards degree requirements at Indian HEIs where appropriate.
