Washington, February 17, 2025 — Russian officials will meet U.S. counterparts in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to discuss restoring relations, negotiating a peaceful settlement for the war in Ukraine, and preparing for a potential meeting between Presidents Putin and Trump. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and advisor Yuri Ushakov will attend, with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio leading the delegation.
Following a recent call between Trump and Putin, the talks aim to establish the foundation for peace discussions on Ukraine. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy will be involved, but it remains unclear if Ukraine will participate directly. European governments are also seeking a role in the negotiations.
