TTD Accelerates Waste Cleanup on Tirumala Hills, 2 Lakh Tons Cleared

Tirumala, February 8, 2025: Waste management on the sacred Tirumala hills has been neglected for five years, leading to significant pollution and hardships for nearby Balaji Nagar residents. The newly formed TTD governing body has taken swift action to address the issue. With daily footfalls of 70,000 to 1,00,000 devotees generating 80 tons of waste, TTD is ensuring its efficient daily removal to maintain cleanliness and sanctity.

At Kakulamanu Yard, 2.5 lakh tons of garbage accumulated over 20 years are being cleared, with 2 lakh tons already removed since November. TTD, with DRDO’s assistance, is enhancing waste management practices. Additionally, IOCL is constructing a ₹12.85 crore biogas plant capable of producing 40 tons of biogas daily, set to be operational by August, to supply the Tarigonda Vengamamba Annadanam Center.
