Saint Petersburg, April 12, 2025 – U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg to advance peace negotiations concerning the ongoing Ukraine conflict. The four-hour meeting, described as “productive” by Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev, focused on various aspects of the proposed Ukrainian settlement.
President Donald Trump has expressed frustration over the pace of negotiations, urging Russia to “get moving” on peace talks. Despite Ukraine’s endorsement of a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire, Russia has imposed conditions, including Ukraine’s non-NATO membership and territorial concessions, complicating progress toward a lasting peace.
