New Delhi, April 7, 2025: India’s exports to the United States could decline by 6.41% in 2025 due to the reimposition of high tariffs by former U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a report by the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI). The report highlights that several key sectors including steel, aluminum, electronics, and textiles are likely to be adversely affected by the new trade barriers.
The GTRI analysis suggests that the Trump-era tariff policies, now revived in the 2025 policy framework, are creating uncertainty for Indian exporters and impacting competitiveness in the U.S. market. The projected export dip reflects concerns over rising protectionism and the need for strategic diversification of India’s trade partnerships.
