Washington, February 19, 2025: U.S. President Donald Trump, in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, recalled a conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about trade tariffs. Trump reiterated his stance on reciprocal tariffs, stating that the U.S. would impose the same duties that other countries, including India, apply on American goods. His remarks were aimed at addressing trade imbalances and ensuring fair practices in international trade.
During the discussion, Tesla CEO Elon Musk pointed out India’s 100% import duty on automobiles, highlighting the challenges faced by U.S. businesses. Trump agreed, calling the tariffs excessively high and unfair. While he acknowledged that setting up manufacturing plants in India would be a viable option, he maintained that the current tariff system puts the U.S. at a disadvantage, reinforcing his push for balanced trade policies.
