Viral News: A 30-year-old employee working at a factory in Thailand died a day after her manager allegedly refused her sick leave request.
The deceased, identified as May, collapsed at work. The incident occurred in Sukhothai, Thailand, where she was employed at an electronics plant named Delta Electronics.
According to reports, May had taken sick leave from September 5 to 9 after being diagnosed with an inflamed large intestine. Her friend claimed that May submitted a medical certificate for her sick leave and was admitted to the hospital for four days.
Even after being discharged, May’s condition did not improve, and she took two additional days off.
On September 12, she requested more sick leave as her health had worsened. However, her manager denied the request, asking for another medical certificate before granting further leave.
Fearing she might lose her job, May returned to work the next day. However, just 20 minutes after reporting for duty, she collapsed and was rushed to the hospital for surgery. She passed away the following day.
This shocking incident took place at a time of growing concern over employee welfare in Thailand.
The company took to Facebook, stating, “Delta Electronics is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of one of its team members. The company extends its heartfelt thoughts and condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”
Victor Cheng, CEO of Delta Electronics (Thailand) PCL, added, “At Delta Electronics, our people are the foundation of our success, and we are devastated by this loss. Our priority is to provide unwavering support to the employee’s family at this trying time.”
The company further stated, “We have launched a comprehensive investigation to establish the facts surrounding this incident. Delta Electronics remains committed to transparency and responsibility and will keep all relevant parties informed as more information becomes available.”
“Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, further details cannot be provided at this time. Delta Electronics appreciates the public’s patience and understanding and respectfully requests the public not to speculate further and instead provide privacy for the family during this sensitive period,” the post concluded.
