Taiwan Hikes Industrial Pollution Fees to Combat Water Contamination

Taipei, April 5, 2025 – Taiwan’s Ministry of Environment has revised its regulations to raise fees on industrial water pollution, aiming to curb environmental damage and promote cleaner industrial operations. The new policy targets industries that discharge high levels of pollutants, making them financially responsible for the environmental harm they cause.

The revised fee system will consider both the volume and toxicity of wastewater discharged, with stricter penalties for repeat violators. The government hopes the changes will not only deter pollution but also motivate industries to invest in sustainable practices and advanced wastewater treatment technologies.
