
New Delhi, December 16, 2024: Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa arrived in India today for a significant diplomatic visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations. During his visit, President Rajapaksa held high-level talks with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in various areas, including trade, security, defence, and regional stability. Both leaders expressed a shared commitment to deepening the strategic partnership between India and Sri Lanka, with particular emphasis on collaborative efforts to combat regional security challenges, including terrorism and maritime security.
The visit comes at a time when both countries are working to bolster economic ties and strengthen political relations in the wake of global geopolitical shifts. President Rajapaksa’s discussions with Jaishankar and Sitharaman are seen as an important step in furthering Sri Lanka’s ties with India, a key regional partner.
