    Singapore President’s Landmark India Visit to Mark 60 Years of Diplomatic Ties

    New Delhi, January 11, 2025: Singapore’s President, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, will visit India from January 14 to 18, 2025, to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic ties. The visit, the first by a Singaporean president in a decade, will focus on cooperation in areas like energy, industrial parks, and skill development. President Shanmugaratnam is scheduled to meet Indian leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and visit Bhubaneswar to tour the World Skills Centre and meet Odisha’s Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik.

    Singapore is India’s largest ASEAN trade partner and a key source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). The two nations have collaborated on skill development projects across multiple Indian states, with ongoing initiatives in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Strengthening ties in emerging sectors and signing agreements on semiconductors and skill development are key priorities of this visit.

    President Shanmugaratnam will also honor Tarun Das, former Director General of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), with Singapore’s highest citizenship award for his contributions to bilateral relations. This visit aims to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and foster collaboration in transformative sectors.
