Sriharikota, February 3, 2025 – The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has encountered difficulties in placing the NVS-02 satellite into its designated orbit due to a failure in its engine ignition. Launched on May 29 aboard a GSLV rocket, NVS-02 plays a crucial role in India’s satellite navigation system. This mission was ISRO’s 100th launch, marking a significant milestone. However, ISRO confirmed that the engines failed to ignite as the oxidizer supply valves did not open, preventing the satellite from reaching its intended orbit.
Currently, NVS-02 remains in a Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO), which is unsuitable for navigation operations. ISRO is now evaluating alternative solutions to address the issue and potentially salvage the mission. The organization is actively exploring ways to maneuver the satellite into the correct orbit to ensure it can still contribute to India’s navigation system.
