Vijayawada, January 11, 2025: With the Sankranti festival approaching, there has been a surge in the number of people traveling back to their hometowns, resulting in significant traffic congestion on national highways. Roads leading to Vijayawada from Hyderabad are heavily congested, especially at toll gates, with vehicles moving slowly. This delay in travel has caused inconvenience for many drivers. Additionally, bus and railway stations are overcrowded as families take advantage of the school and college holidays to travel. Authorities have arranged for extra services to accommodate the growing number of passengers.
The toll gates, particularly at Chilakaluripet, are experiencing heavy traffic, with vehicles heading from Hyderabad to Vijayawada. Between 6 AM and 10 AM on Saturday, approximately 25,000 vehicles passed through the Chilakaluripet toll gate. The toll gate has 12 lanes, of which six are allocated for vehicles heading toward Vijayawada. Authorities have mentioned that they will increase the number of lanes if needed to manage the congestion more effectively.
As further traffic buildup is expected in the evening, additional staff have been deployed at the toll gates to ensure smoother movement and assist travelers.
