Taipei, January 30, 2025: Taiwan has reported a significant uptick in Chinese military activity in its vicinity, with 6 aircraft, 5 vessels, and 3 surveillance balloons spotted near its airspace and waters. The heightened presence comes amid rising tensions in the region, as Chinese forces continue to engage in maneuvers close to Taiwan’s borders, raising concerns about the stability of cross-straight relations.
Taiwan’s defense ministry confirmed the sightings, which include both air and maritime incursions. The aircraft included fighter jets and surveillance planes, while the vessels appeared to be warships and patrol boats. In addition, three Chinese surveillance balloons were detected, further escalating fears about the potential for an intensification of military pressure on the island.
