New Delhi, February 20, 2025 – Rekha Gupta was sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister at Ramlila Maidan, marking the BJP’s return to power in the capital after 27 years. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior NDA leaders, and Union ministers. A first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, Gupta was unanimously elected as the BJP legislative party leader. The event saw nearly 50,000 attendees, including opposition leaders like former CM Arvind Kejriwal and outgoing CM Atishi Marlena.
Gupta is the fourth woman to become Delhi’s Chief Minister. She started her political career with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and later served as the president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU). Having held key BJP positions, including general secretary of the Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha, her appointment is seen as a move to bring fresh leadership while ensuring balanced governance.
