Washington, D.C., February 7, 2025: India and the United States have agreed to strengthen defence cooperation to enhance security in the Indo-Pacific region. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth discussed expanding military ties, including joint defence production, intelligence sharing, and maritime security. A significant step in this partnership is India’s decision to deploy liaison officers to U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) to improve operational coordination.
The two leaders also reviewed the Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) initiative, which aims to enhance surveillance and counter security threats in the region. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific, particularly in response to increasing geopolitical challenges.
