Rajnath Singh Slams Congress for Monopolizing Constitution’s Creation in Parliament

New Delhi, December 13, 2024: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh criticized the Congress Party for attempting to “hijack” the framing of India’s Constitution during a debate in the Lok Sabha. Singh emphasized that many significant contributors to the Constitution were deliberately overlooked, and he accused Congress of trying to monopolize its creation. He pointed out that the Constitution was a collective effort, reflecting the broader will of the people, and included contributions from leaders outside the Constituent Assembly, such as Bhagat Singh and Veer Savarkar, whose ideas influenced its shaping.

Singh also referred to the Preamble of the Constitution, stressing that the BJP and its supporters had always stood by the original ideals of a secular and democratic India, as envisioned in the Constitution. He highlighted that the changes made to the Preamble during the Emergency period under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1976, which added the terms “socialist” and “secular,” were a move by Congress to alter its foundational principles. He criticized Congress for the numerous amendments it had introduced, questioning their intentions and impact on the Constitution’s original spirit.
