San Diego, May 28, 2025 – Qualcomm has unveiled a new study showcasing the superior performance of its latest X85 5G modem over Apple’s first in-house C1 modem used in the iPhone 16e. Launched at Mobile World Congress 2025, the X85 supports peak download speeds of 12.5 Gbps and upload speeds of 3.7 Gbps. It includes advanced features like 5G mmWave, 400MHz Sub-6GHz bandwidth, satellite connectivity, and AI-enhanced signal optimization, reinforcing Qualcomm’s technological lead in mobile connectivity.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon stated that the X85 establishes a notable performance gap between high-end Android devices and Apple’s current modem capabilities. While Apple’s C1 is appreciated for power efficiency and stability in low-signal conditions, it lacks key technologies such as mmWave support. Apple is reportedly working on future modem versions to match Qualcomm’s advancements in speed and functionality.
