New Delhi, December 10, 2024: Minister for Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi highlighted the critical role of e-commerce platforms in ensuring transparency, trustworthiness, and a secure shopping environment during his address at the Amazon Smbhav Summit 2024. He emphasized the government’s initiatives, such as the Consumer Protection Act and the establishment of the Central Consumer Protection Authority, which aim to curb unfair trade practices in the rapidly growing e-commerce sector.
The minister stressed the need for online platforms to provide accurate product information, transparent pricing, clear refund and return policies, and robust quality assurance measures. He underlined that building consumer trust is essential for the sector’s sustainable growth and cautioned platforms against favoring specific brands or evading accountability for customer grievances.
Joshi also praised India’s burgeoning e-commerce ecosystem, describing it as a transformative force in the digital economy. However, he reiterated the necessity of stringent measures to protect consumer rights and ensure a fair marketplace for all stakeholders.
