New Delhi, December 3, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will dedicate the implementation of three landmark criminal laws in Chandigarh today. These laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—represent a significant overhaul of India’s criminal justice system, emphasizing greater transparency and efficiency. These laws, which came into effect nationwide on July 1, 2024, are designed to tackle modern challenges like cybercrime and organized crime, offering a more contemporary and justice-driven framework compared to the previous colonial-era laws.
The event will be held at Punjab Engineering College in Chandigarh, where a live demonstration will showcase the practical application of these laws. The demonstration will make use of advanced digital tools such as e-Sakshya, Nyay Setu, and e-Summons to enhance law enforcement capabilities. The event will include a simulated crime scene investigation, highlighting how technology is transforming legal procedures and improving efficiency.
In preparation for the event, robust security arrangements have been made. Several prominent dignitaries, including the Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of Chandigarh, will be attending, along with newly inducted IPS officers. This initiative marks a critical step toward a more modern and effective legal system in India.
The dedication of these new laws is expected to bring about a transformative shift in India’s justice system by simplifying legal procedures, improving accountability, and ensuring timely justice. This reform underscores the government’s commitment to addressing current and future challenges in law enforcement and public safety.
