
Gandhinagar, January 24, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Bharat Ratna and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur on his birth anniversary, highlighting his unwavering dedication to social justice. PM Modi described Thakur as a “leader of the masses” who “dedicated his entire life to social justice and made many efforts in this direction.” He further stated that Thakur’s life and ideals “will continue to inspire every generation of the country.”
Born in 1924 in Pitaunjhia (now Karpoori Gram) in Darbhanga, Bihar, Karpoori Thakur was a freedom fighter and a prominent socialist leader. He served as the Chief Minister of Bihar in two non-consecutive terms and was posthumously honored with the Bharat Ratna in 2024. Thakur was affectionately known as ‘Jannayak’ for his relentless commitment to serving the people and advancing their causes.
