New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Thursday that the implementation of ‘One Rank One Pension’ (OROP) for veterans is a meaningful step in expressing the nation’s gratitude to its heroes.
In posts on X, he highlighted that this scheme, a key promise made by the BJP before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, was officially implemented on this day. His government made the decision to enact OROP by issuing an order on November 7, 2015, with benefits retroactively applied from July 1, 2014.
“It brings joy to see that, over the past decade, millions of pensioners and their families have benefited from this landmark initiative. Beyond the numbers, OROP reflects the government’s dedication to the welfare of our armed forces,” the prime minister shared. He added that his government remains committed to doing everything possible to support the armed forces and enhance the welfare of those who serve the nation.
The prime minister remarked that the execution of OROP serves as a tribute to the courage and sacrifices of veterans and ex-service personnel who devote their lives to safeguarding the country. “The decision to implement OROP was a vital step toward addressing this long-standing demand and reaffirming our nation’s respect and gratitude for our heroes,” he said.
