One Nation One Subscription: A Game-Changer for India’s Academic Landscape

New Delhi, India, November 26, 2024

The “One Nation One Subscription” (ONOS) initiative is poised to transform India’s academic landscape by ensuring equal access to scholarly resources for students, faculty, and researchers across the nation. Approved by the Union Cabinet, the scheme will provide seamless access to research papers, journals, and academic publications, benefiting more than 6,300 higher educational and research institutions under both central and state governments.

Coordinated by the central agency INFLIBNET, ONOS is designed to foster research and innovation, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, by making academic resources readily available to a wide range of students and researchers. The scheme is backed by a substantial budget allocation of ₹6,000 crore for the period 2025-2027 and is expected to significantly enhance interdisciplinary studies while cultivating a culture of research throughout the country. This initiative aligns with the goals outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the broader objectives of India’s Vision 2047.

A key advantage of ONOS is its potential to level the playing field for students and researchers across the country. By providing access to high-quality academic content, the initiative addresses the knowledge divide, ensuring that students from all regions—whether urban or rural—have the same opportunities for academic growth and innovation.

Overall, the One Nation One Subscription initiative represents a significant milestone for India’s education system, promoting youth empowerment and accelerating research. It is expected to boost India’s global standing in academic and scientific research while supporting the aspirations of its young minds in every corner of the nation.
