Nitesh Rane Vows to Stop ‘Vote Jihad’ in Maharashtra Polls Amid FIRs

KANKAVLI: Maharashtra BJP MLA Nitesh Rane has stated that he will prevent “vote jihad” from occurring in the upcoming state assembly elections and expressed that he is not intimidated by the multiple FIRs filed against him for hate speeches. In an interview with PTI, Rane defended his actions, asserting that he was simply supporting his “dharma” or community, claiming there was nothing wrong with it. He emphasized that his identity as a Hindu is central to his beliefs, and he stood by his religion despite facing criticism for his remarks.

Rane, who is the BJP candidate for Kankavli in the November 20 Maharashtra assembly elections, alleged that “vote jihad” occurred during the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, with the Muslim community voting overwhelmingly against the BJP. He pledged that such a situation would not repeat in the state elections. He also accused certain sections of the Muslim community, including Rohingyas and Bangladeshis, of disregarding the Constitution while adhering to Sharia law. Rane questioned why people should vote based on religion instead of as Indians, criticizing the practice of promoting division under terms like “love jihad” and “land jihad.”

The BJP leader further claimed that while some people promote peace between Hindus and Muslims, they simultaneously engage in activities that sow discord, like voting against the Modi government. He also noted that these same individuals seek to benefit from government schemes meant for all citizens. Rane’s controversial comments have drawn significant attention, particularly after a viral video surfaced in September, where he made inflammatory statements about retaliating against anyone who disrespects religious figures like Ramgiri Maharaj.

Facing multiple FIRs, Rane maintained that his comments were aimed at defending his community and religion, especially when they were allegedly denied the right to celebrate their festivals in a Hindu-majority country. He expressed that he was unafraid of facing legal action for standing up for his beliefs, reinforcing his commitment to representing his religion and community despite the legal challenges.
