NEW DELHI: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) recently concluded a three-day capacity-building program aimed at strengthening the Arunachal Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC). Held in New Delhi, the initiative focused on enhancing the capabilities of APSHRC officials in human rights protection and promotion, with an emphasis on improving their understanding of the commission’s functions, especially in handling complaints, case registration, and grievance redressal mechanisms.
Bharat Lal, the Secretary General of the NHRC, addressed participants during the program and stressed the importance of sensitivity, promptness, and responsiveness when dealing with human rights issues. He underscored that a swift and proactive approach to addressing complaints is critical in building public trust and ensuring effective human rights protection across the country.
The APSHRC’s Acting Chairperson, Bamang Tago, also acknowledged the significance of the training program for the commission. As a relatively new body, the APSHRC has much to gain from NHRC’s extensive experience over the last three decades. Tago emphasized how the program would help the commission in efficiently addressing human rights issues, thereby improving its functioning and accountability.
The capacity-building initiative is expected to have a lasting impact on the APSHRC’s work, equipping its officials with the necessary tools and knowledge to better serve the people of Arunachal Pradesh. The training aligns with the NHRC’s commitment to enhancing human rights protection and promoting a more responsive and accountable system across the country.
