New Delhi, January 7 – The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a draft outlining the minimum qualifications for the appointment and promotion of teachers and academic staff in universities and colleges. The draft also includes measures to maintain standards in higher education. Stakeholders are invited to submit their feedback on the draft by February 5, 2025.
The regulations will apply to all universities established under Central, Provincial, or State Acts, as well as recognized institutions, including affiliated colleges. These rules will cover Engineering, Technology, and Management disciplines for recruitment and promotion. Higher education institutions (HEIs) must align their statutes with these regulations within six months of their implementation.
