Central Govt Approved National Highway Works: Under the first phase of the Bharatmala Pariyojana Project, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has given the green signal to start the construction of 7 national highways in Andhra Pradesh. Although these projects were approved last year, their tendering process was put on hold by the central government. Recently, the center has approved the simultaneous commencement of all these projects.
In this regard, a letter was sent to the Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Roads and Buildings Department. Initially, the construction of these 384 kilometers of highways was estimated to cost Rs. 6,646 crores, but the current expenditure has been revised down to Rs. 6,280 crores. Among these projects is the expansion of the Kondamodu-Perecherla section.
Details of the 7 National Highways:
- National Highway Number 167AG: A 49.917-kilometer stretch will be expanded into four lanes at a cost of Rs. 881.61 crores.
- NH 167K: The 62.571-kilometer section between Sangameswaram-Nallakaluva and Veligonda-Nandyal will be expanded into two lanes with an investment of Rs. 601 crores.
- NH 167K: The newly declared national highway section between Nandyal and Kurnool/Cuddapah border will be modernized over 62 kilometers with a budget of Rs. 691 crores.
- NH-440: The 78.95-kilometer road from Vempalli to Chagalamarri (via Yerraguntla, Proddatur) will be expanded into two and four lanes with an investment of Rs. 1,321 crores.

Among these 7 projects, tenders have already been called for the first two projects, and two bidders have been selected as L-1. As a result, the latest prices were fixed based on the amounts quoted by these companies, and the estimates were revised accordingly. As part of the Kondamodu-Perecherla highway expansion, two bypass roads are planned near Sattenapalli and Medikondur, as announced by TDP Parliamentary Party leader Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu.
