Nashik’s New Civic Chief Targets Pollution Reduction Ahead of 2027 Kumbh Mela

Nashik ,December 27, 2024: Manisha Khatri, the newly appointed Municipal Commissioner of Nashik, has called for urgent action to reduce pollution in the Godavari River ahead of the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela. She stressed the importance of cleaning the river to accommodate the millions of devotees expected for the event. Khatri, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, also emphasized that the pollution reduction efforts would contribute significantly to Nashik’s long-term growth and development, especially with plans to host water sports as part of India’s bid for the 2036 Olympic Games.

Khatri outlined her commitment to improving the city’s civic infrastructure, focusing on essential services such as potable water, public health facilities, education, and transportation. She highlighted that a cleaner Godavari and improved infrastructure would not only benefit the upcoming Kumbh Mela but also ensure lasting improvements for Nashik. The new civic chief further noted that Nashik has a valuable two-year window before the Mela to address these issues and make significant strides in city development.

In her vision for Nashik’s future, Khatri hopes to elevate the city to one of the top 10 cleanest cities in India, surpassing cities like Indore, which is currently ranked as the cleanest. Her roadmap for the city’s transformation includes revamping sanitation systems and improving the overall quality of life for residents. With a focus on sustainability, public health, and urban development, Khatri aims to position Nashik as a model city for civic excellence.
