New Delhi, January 9, 2025: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed all state governments and Union Territories (UTs) to organize a 100-day intensified campaign within prisons aimed at eliminating Tuberculosis (TB). The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to combat the disease and curb its spread within correctional facilities, where the confined environment can increase the risk of transmission.
The MHA’s directive encourages coordination between local health departments and prison authorities to ensure that inmates are screened for TB, receive timely treatment, and are educated about preventive measures. This initiative is in line with the national goal to eliminate TB by 2025, and it underscores the government’s commitment to improving public health in vulnerable settings such as prisons.
