New Delhi, January 28, 2025: India has lodged a strong protest with Sri Lanka over an incident in which the Sri Lankan Navy opened fire during the apprehension of Indian fishermen. The incident occurred in the early hours of the day, leading to significant concerns over the safety of Indian fishermen operating in the region. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed deep concern over the use of force and called for an immediate investigation into the matter.
In response to the incident, the MEA summoned the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in New Delhi to convey India’s displeasure and demand a thorough inquiry. India has called for measures to prevent such incidents in the future and emphasized the need for safe and fair practices to protect the interests of fishermen from both countries.
