MCOCA Applied in NCP Politician Baba Siddique’s Murder Investigation

Mumbai, November 30, 2024: The Mumbai Police have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the murder case of NCP politician Baba Siddique. This decision follows an investigation that uncovered links to organised criminal gangs. As of now, 26 individuals have been arrested, including Shiv Kumar Gautam, the suspected shooter.

Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister, was shot on October 12 outside his son’s office in Bandra East. He succumbed to his injuries after being struck by two bullets. The murder has attracted nationwide attention, with investigations suggesting ties to notorious gangster syndicates, particularly with the involvement of Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother, Anmol Bishnoi, who is currently in jail.

The invocation of MCOCA allows the police to use more stringent investigative tools, such as admissible confessions and enhanced surveillance powers, which are essential in tackling organised crime. The law also imposes harsher penalties for the accused. The police are continuing their investigation into other individuals connected to the crime, some of whom are still at large.

Authorities are working on connecting all the dots in this case, which has stirred political and social discussions due to its potential ties to criminal networks. The investigation is ongoing as more arrests and leads are expected to emerge.
