Gold Jewellery Robbery at SBI Bank in Warangal District
A daring robbery took place at an SBI bank branch in Warangal district, Telangana, on Monday night, where burglars executed a well-planned heist. Noticing the lack of a security guard at the premises, the criminals first cut the alarm wires, then smashed the window and removed the iron grill to enter the bank. They disabled the CCTV cameras by cutting the wires to avoid leaving any evidence. The robbers made off with 19 kilograms of gold jewellery, worth approximately ₹14.94 crore.
According to police reports, the burglars found three safety lockers inside the bank. Using a gas cutter they had brought with them, they cut open one of the lockers, which contained packets of gold jewellery belonging to around 500 account holders. Of these packets, the burglars managed to steal nearly ₹14.94 crore worth of jewellery. Before leaving the scene, they also stole the CCTV camera hard drive to erase all traces of their presence. The gas cutter used in the crime was left behind at the scene.
The theft was discovered the next morning when the bank staff arrived and noticed the break-in. The staff immediately reported the matter to the police. Local authorities, including the CI of Vardhannapet, Srinivas Rao, and other officers, rushed to the scene to investigate. Several customers, alarmed by the robbery, gathered outside the bank, but the officials assured them that the loss would be addressed. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the full details of the stolen property.
This robbery is not the first such incident at this bank. Two years ago, there was an attempt to rob the same branch, following which a private security guard was hired. However, the guard stopped working a year ago, and no replacements were made. The police are continuing their investigation to find the culprits responsible for this massive theft.
