    Manmohan Singh Dies at 92: State Holidays Declared, National Mourning Period Begins

    New Delhi, December 27, 2024: Following the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92, several states have declared public holidays to pay tribute to the veteran leader. Karnataka has announced a state-wide holiday today, December 27, leading to the closure of schools, colleges, and government offices. Similarly, Telangana has also declared a holiday for all government offices and educational institutions, including schools and colleges, as a mark of respect.

    At the national level, the central government has declared a seven-day mourning period from December 27 to January 2. During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the country. However, no nationwide public holiday has been announced, and banks, schools, and government offices outside states like Karnataka and Telangana are expected to function as usual.

    Citizens are urged to stay informed about specific closures in their respective regions by consulting local authorities or official state notifications.
