New Delhi: Police arrested a 43-year-old man for allegedly molesting a woman onboard a Delhi-Chennai Indigo flight. The accused has been identified as Rajesh Sharma. He was nabbed after the flight touched down at the Chennai airport on October 9. According to sources, the woman was heading back home after a trip to Jaipur and Delhi when the alleged incident took place.
Sources suggested that the accused who was seated behind the woman complainant touched her inappropriately while she was asleep. The woman woke up after the unwanted contact, reports further suggested.
Upon landing at Meenambakkam airport in Chennai at around 4.30 pm on Wednesday, the woman confided in airline staff and then filed a police report.
Following the complaint, a case was registered under Section 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused.
Hailing from Rajasthan , Sharma has been residing in Chennai for several years.
In a separate incident that took place in November last year, a man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman on board a Guwahati-bound IndiGo flight.
In an official statement, IndiGo had confirmed, “A male passenger on flight 6E 5319 from Mumbai to Guwahati was handed over to Guwahati Police upon arrival after a fellow passenger reported alleged sexual harassment.”
