JAMMU KASHMIR : In a major success against cross-border smuggling and terrorism, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and narcotics in Kupwara district. The operation was conducted in the Keran sector near the Line of Control (LoC) based on specific intelligence inputs about the movement of smugglers in the area.
The seized items include assault rifles, pistols, grenades, and ammunition, alongside a significant quantity of narcotics, suspected to be heroin. Officials estimate the recovered drugs to be worth crores in the international market. Security forces believe the consignment was intended to fund and facilitate terrorist activities in the Kashmir Valley.
“The successful recovery highlights the persistent attempts by Pakistan-based entities to push arms and drugs into Indian territory,” an Army spokesperson said. He added that heightened vigilance along the LoC and coordinated intelligence-sharing between security forces are crucial in thwarting such attempts.
This incident is part of a series of recent recoveries in border areas, where security forces have been intensifying their anti-smuggling operations. Over the past few months, several arms and drug smuggling attempts have been foiled, pointing to a clear nexus between terror groups and drug syndicates. The recovered consignment is being examined for further leads, and an investigation has been launched to identify those involved.
The Army and J&K Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region. Local residents have been urged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities, as community cooperation plays a key role in curbing such illegal activities. This joint operation serves as a reminder of the challenges security forces face in dealing with the dual threats of terrorism and narcotics in Jammu and Kashmir.
