MUMBAI: The ruling MahaYuti alliance faces a continued deadlock over the Mahim-Dadar assembly constituency, with Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) candidate Sada Sarvankar refusing to withdraw from the contest against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray’s son, Amit Thackeray, who is backed by the BJP.
Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde must decide whether to ask Sarvankar to step aside in favor of Amit.
“Mahim-Dadar is traditionally a Shiv Sena seat. If it were a BJP seat, we would have decided within a minute to support Amit Thackeray. The decision now lies with CM Eknath Shinde. We are confident that Shinde will make a positive choice that strengthens MahaYuti,” Bawankule said.
Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have held multiple meetings with Sarvankar, but no progress has been made. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations is November 4.
