Maharashtra, December 3, 2024 — The leaders of the Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and NCP (led by Ajit Pawar), are scheduled to meet today to finalize cabinet positions following the state’s decisive Assembly elections. Maharashtra’s caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will attend the critical meeting, where discussions over the allocation of key ministries are expected to take priority.
Following the Mahayuti alliance’s overwhelming victory in the November 2024 elections, securing 230 out of 288 seats, the political parties have been negotiating leadership roles. While Eknath Shinde, who had resigned as Chief Minister, is likely to continue in the role of Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, a senior BJP leader, is expected to be named Chief Minister.
The high-level meeting will determine the control of key portfolios among the alliance parties. The BJP is anticipated to retain major ministries such as Finance, Home, and Energy, while both the Shiv Sena and NCP are seeking significant positions, including Urban Development and Finance.
