Maharashtra Police Seize 10,080 kg of Silver During Election Day Check in Dhule District

MUMBAI: In a significant discovery on the day of the Maharashtra state assembly elections, police seized 10,080 kg of silver from a truck in Dhule district. The truck, which was on its way to Nagpur, was stopped during a routine check around 6 am on polling day. The seizure took place under the jurisdiction of Thalner police station.

The silver, which is believed to belong to a bank, was found as part of a routine inspection conducted by the police. Special Inspector General of Police for Nashik, Dattatray Karale, confirmed the seizure and stated that poll expenditure observers and the Income Tax department had been notified. Further investigations are underway to verify the ownership and legality of the silver.

This seizure is part of a broader effort by state and central authorities to monitor and control the movement of illicit goods during election periods. Since October 15, authorities have seized assets valued at Rs 706.98 crore, including illegal cash, liquor, narcotics, and precious metals, as part of enforcement activities across the state.

With the elections ongoing, the authorities continue their vigilance to prevent misuse of funds and resources during the polling process. The seized silver is now under investigation, and further action will be taken once ownership is confirmed.
